What’s in a name?

In the New Year we are introducing a new BEST award – Chosen by You… Pupils will get to nominate and vote for a pupil they think deserves a special class award. In the Friday award assembly they will be presented by the class their award with a reason why they were the BEST.

But we have a problem… We can’t think of a name for the award! One teacher thought of BEST Value but it sounds a little like a supermarket own brand label! So over the holiday have a think of a name for the certificate. Post your idea on the Blog below and we will pick the best idea for our Class BEST Award.

Pizza Fun!

Yesterday all of the children in Year 3 made their own pizza.

The children made their dough from scratch following the recipe below.

Measure out your ingredients

250g plain flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 teaspoon dry yeast

Pinch sugar

3/4 cup warm water

1 tablespoon olive oil

Sprinkle yeast over warm water, add a pinch of sugar, stir with a wooden spoon quickly then leave to activate (approx 5 min).

In a mixer with dough hook (or bowl) add flour and salt, mix to combine then when yeast has activated (top starts to foam) pour into the flour and mix on low speed adding 1 tablespoon on oil at a time until it forms into a ball.

Remove from bowl and kneed for 3-5 minutes, until the dough is soft and pliable.

Sprinkle flour in your bowl and place dough back in, cover with glad wrap and leave in a warm place for 30 minutes.

When doubled in size cut dough in half then half again and roll out to make your pizza base. Place dough onto your oven tray before applying sauce and topping.

Take a look at the pictures below to see how the children got on.

Miss Gore takes us on a cool trip.

This morning 3G went to the Tamworth Snowdome to get an experience of what it is like in cold climates. We did some sledging and had a snowball fight – Mr Pahal cheats…

P.E Kits

Just a reminder it is the expectation at Holbrook that children have their P.E kits in school every day. Please ensure your child has their full P.E kit, including jogging bottoms, t-shirt, jumper and suitable trainers.

We will be cracking down on this in Year 3 as there are far too many children who do not have their P.E kits or whose shoes are not suitable for P.E. We will be keeping a list of children who do not bring in their P.E kits frequently and will be contacting parents.

Many thanks for all those parents who do ensure their children have appropriate P.E kits week on week.

Thank you

The Year 3 Teachers
